Head of Gearbox reveals new details of Borderlands film adaptation
Right now, the production of the film adaptation of the crazy looter shooter Borderlands is in full swing, and recently a short retelling of the plot picture was published on the network. It has confused fans of the series, because it has very little to do with the game itself. Randy Pitchford, head of the Gearbox Software studio, decided to clarify what is happening.
A synopsis of the Borderlands adaptation was published by IGN. It looks like this:
Lilith, a notorious criminal with a mysterious past, reluctantly returns to the planet Pandora to find the missing daughter of Atlas, the most powerful reptile in the universe. There, she makes an alliance with an unusual team, which includes an elite mercenary Roland who’s seeking redemption, a young savage demolitionist Tina with her protector Krieg, the mad scientist Tannis and the annoying robot Iron.
These under-heroes will have to fight alien monsters and dangerous bandits. All for the sake of protecting the girl, who can become the key to unimaginable power. The fate of the whole universe will be in the hands of the team, but the guys will not fight for it, but for something more - for each other.
Of course, all of the above can cause some shock to gamers familiar with the history of the game. They know that Lilith, Roland, Mordecai and Brick arrived at Pandora in search of treasures, Tannis and Tina were minor characters in the sequel, and Krieg had the status of an additional hero.
Randy Pitchford explained the discrepancy with the original source. He stated that the team did not intend to tell the same story as in the games. It was important for her to convey the atmosphere of insane action and reliably display the characters of the colorful heroes. The decision to completely change the plot was taken at the start. According to Pitchford, a separate universe is created for the film, which, if successful, will be developed.
Recall that the film adaptation of Borderlands is directed by horror director Eli Roth. The roles in the film are played by Hollywood stars like Cate Blanchett, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Jamie Lee Curtis, as well as slightly lesser-known actors Ariana Greenblatt, Florian Munteanu, Hayley Bennett and Edgar Ramirez.
We also remind you that recently The Gearbox Entertainment Company became part of the Embracer Group. The merger of the two giant companies became known in February, but only now a large-scale deal officially came into force. Its value, by the way, was a fabulous $1.3 billion.
